The Making of Tatsumiya - Episode 9: An inn connected to the town — The stage of Tenma

Tatsumiya is not just an inn that recreates a traditional townhouse.

What we aim to do is to be an inn that lives with the town.

It is significant that the setting for this is the town of Tenma, Osaka.

Tenma is an area that is different from flashy tourist destinations, and where the "warmth of everyday life" still lingers.

At 2.6km long, Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street is the longest in Japan, and coffee shops, standing bars, and long-established soba restaurants that still retain the atmosphere of the Showa era are still lined up.

While businesses rooted in everyday life continue to exist, Rakugo is performed at Keishotei, and a culture where you can experience history and customs at Tenmangu Shrine is alive and well.

Furthermore, Ogimachi Park is within walking distance of the inn, where you can see families with children and people walking their dogs.
In the morning, people can be seen reading the newspaper, and at dusk, izakayas with red lanterns swaying in the noren—
The town of Tenma is a place where such “downtown scenery” unfolds quite naturally.

Tatsumi-ya hopes to be a “space” that connects travelers with the life of the town.

For example, try a dish recommended by a shopkeeper in the shopping district at an izakaya.
Enjoy seasonal fruit purchased at a greengrocer at your inn.
Drop into an izakaya and laugh and chat with the regulars.

Savoring a “deep breath of the town” that is not found in tourist guides will enrich your impression of your trip.

Tatsumi-ya has prepared mechanisms to connect you to the town.
A handmade guidebook introducing the local area, and a map of famous restaurants within a five-minute walk.
And as residents of Tenma, the staff themselves will casually support your stay.

Staying at an inn means coming into contact with the town.
When you leave, you'll have memories of not only the building but also the people and the place—
That's how Tatsumiya envisions an "inn connected to the town."

Blending into the town, communicating the town.
Tatsumiya lives and breathes, gently nestled in the town of Tenma.

We'll be creating a separate article about the Tenma guide, so look forward to it!
